We got Diddly’s “Body” made. Now, threading blunt needle with first tail you left, begin to sew the sides closed even as you stuff along, fasten off and weave end at the end of each color. Continue this way until you have a tube. Do not cut off your yarn just yet, sew together both ends until you have a closed circle. Now, twist your closed circle to form the figure of an 8. Insert the blunt needle into the crocheted fabric, and pass it underneath the fabric while you hold together the shape of your 8 with the opposite hand, make small stitches around that area to secure the shape, so that it won’t fall apart. If you have to,  insert the needle deep into the stuffing and bring it up on the opposite side and then, with tiny stitches, join the pieces together, work for heavy use. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Now comes the real fun! Let’s give a personality to our little Oodle!

Rnds 15 to 16- 1 sc in each sc around. (56 sc) Fasten off Lemon, weave in ends.

Now, as for all Mookie Tookies, we will divide the stitches we have into 4 parts, and crochet the top in rows, rather than in rnds, to give to our little fellow the characteristic shape of a Mookie Tookie.

4 x 14= 56
So we will be dividing the top of our Mookie in 4 sections, each with 14 sc per row.

Row 6- 1 sc in each of first 4 sc, 2 sc in each sc till last 4 sc, 1 sc in each of last 4 sc. Ch 1, turn. (46 sc)
Note 3- What you have now looks like a hyperbolic half circle, don’t panic, that is perfect!
Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with (leave a generous tail so that you can secure the “wrinkles” in place also!)
Note 4- If you want this wrinkly spot to rise above the Eyes, crochet 1 extra row after Row 6, making 1 sc in each sc across.
I did not want to make it too big because I wanted the "Face" colors to show. You can also reduce the size of the Eyes, by stopping at Rnd 1.
Pugs have big round Eyes and I wanted to keep that. But you work according to your taste.

Rnd 6- 1 sc in each of first 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc, rep around. (28 sc)
Rnds 7 to 8- 1 sc in each sc around. (28 sc)
Rnd 9- 1 sc in each of first 4 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, [1 sc in each of next 4 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc,] rep 3 times, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc, sc2tog over last 2 sc. (24 sc)
Rnd 10- 1 sc in each sc around. (24 sc)
Rnd 11- 1 sc in each first 3 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, [1 sc in each of next 3 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc,] rep 3 times, 1 sc in each sc till end of rnd. (20 sc)
Rnd 12- 1 sc in each of first 5 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 6 sc, sc2tog over next 2 sc, 1 sc in each sc till end of rnd. (18 sc)

Note- Ears are large so that they can fold forward, and also to add to his funny look.

Let’s put our little baby together. First, stuff Legs and sew them in place as seen in photos. Fasten off and weave in tails. Now, do the same with the Arms. Fasten off and weave in ends. Now sew Nose to center of Muzzle. Fasten off and weave in tails inside Muzzle. With Baby Pink, embroider Mouth as seen in photos, fasten off and weave in ends. Center the Cauliflower semi-circle that will form our little rascal’s “wrinkles” and pin it in place. Sew all around, as you sew, make sure the “wrinkles concentrate in the middle, leaving the sides flat so that you can place the Eyes there. Don’t worry about how it looks, it will make sense later. When you reach the first “wrinkle” do the following: Stuff ever so slightly, then, with the thumb and index finger of your opposite hand, “pinch” into form while you sew the edge of the stitches in place. Sew the next few stitches flat (in between the two “wrinkles”) and then stuff and “pinch” the next wrinkle into shape. Finish the rest by sewing it flat. Fasten off, weave in tail.
Stuff the Muzzle and sew into place above the bottom of our cauliflower semi-cirle. Fasten off, weave in tails. Sew Eyes in place. With Wite, Make one dot of light in each Eyes. Fasten off, weave in ends.
Stuff Body well, leaving no empty pockets. Sew top closed. Attach Ears to sides of Head and weave in tails.
Done!

Rnds 14 to 18- 1 sc in each sc around. (72 sc) Fasten off Ranch Red, weave in tail.

As for all Mookie Tookies, now, we’ll stop working in rounds, from now on, we’ll work in rows, to give our little guy the personality that is now typical of Mookie Tookies.
We will need a little bit of math to distribute our stitches evenly, like we have been doing with all the toys of this series. Now, 72 divided by 4 = 18. We will divide the top if 4 equal parts of 18 sts each.

Side #1 (Front)-
Row 19- Join Pumpkin where you would have started the next round and crochet 18 sc only, leaving the rest unworked. Ch 1, turn. (18 sc)
Row 20- 1 sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. (18 sc)

Side #1 (Back)-

Side #2 (Back)-
Rep row 19 to 31 as for Side #2 Front. Fasten off, weave in tail.
Note- If, after having made the first 3 sides with 18 sc each, you find somehow that even thou you started with the right amount of stitches, you wind out with only 17 sts for the last side, don’t fret, that happens sometimes, simply make a 2 sc in the middle of the first row to make up the 18 sc you need for that side and continue to work normally as stated in the pattern.
Thread blunt needle and sew Front sides using tails. Fasten off, weave in ends. Repeat with Back. Sew sides of Body, weave in tails. Leave top open for now.

You all know how I have been trying to encourage you to share the photos of the cutsies you make from my patterns. It is so much fun to see them! This week I was thrilled that Savitri Ramaiah, a busy physician in India, shared a photo of her precious granddaughter with two Funmigurumis crocheted for her by talented grandmother. One of the toys Savitri crocheted was Banjo Clop Clop the funny barnyard horse and the other one was one of the Mookie Tookie dogs. What fun she will have with her toys as she grows older! We wish the best to this sweet little girl as she grows up in her loving home.

As for all Mookie Tookies, now, we’ll stop working in rounds, from now on, we’ll work in rows, to give our little guy the personality that is now typical of Mookie Tookies. With a little math, we will distribute our stitches. We have now 64 stitches around, and we want to work in two sections of 16 stitches each in Front (to give him a bi-colored top), and we will do the same at Back.

16 x 4=64. So it has to be exactly 16 stitches. To make it easier, we will work in sections which we will later on, sew together.

Expression of Eyes-

Cut a long strand of Real Teal and thread blunt needle with it. Insert the needle from the inside of Sweet Potato’s head toward the outside in the very center of the little round that forms the eye, make a stitch that goes from the center of the Turqua circle to the edge of it, repeat this process, moving as if you were marking the sections of a pie, until you have embroidered two-thirds of the eye. Fasten off and weave in inside of the Eye.

Markings on Top of Eyes-

Thread blunt needle with Black and embroider marking on top of eyes as seen in photos.
First, you embroider around the top of the Eye. Then, you make two straight stitches to form a “V” on the outer corner of the Eye, then you make a few sts to “fill” that “V” and you have an easy cat’s Eye. Repeat with the opposite Eye.

Before you fasten off, embroider eyebrows as you see in photos. Fasten off, weave in tail.

Ears #1 (Make 2 pieces)-
With H hook and Spring Green, repeat the nose rows but continue increasing until you have made 7 rows. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with in two of them. Place both right side pieces of an ear facing each other and sew together. Leave bottom open to stick to the corners of the cat's head as seen in photos.
Ear #2-
With H hook and Spring Green, repeat the nose rows but continue increasing until you have made 7 rows. Fasten off, leaving long tail to sew with in two of them. Place both right side pieces of an ear facing each other and sew together. Leave bottom open to stick to the corners of the cat’s head as seen in photos.
Stuff Sweet Potato’s Body and close top. Fasten off, weave in tail. Place ears in top of  edge of Sweet Potato’s head and sew in place as seen in photos, the following way: sew the front of the Ear to the topmost front sts of the Front of Sweet Potato’s Head, from the corner of the Body, stitching inward. Sew the back of the Ear to the sts that are at the top of the Back of Sweet Potato’s Head. Fasten off, weave in ends.
Done!

Show and Tell!

Best Blog Tips
I wish I had pics from you all to see how your own hooks interpret my designs, but some of you are really shy. I want to feature these cuties sent to me by Linda Bolton, and encourage all of you once more to share your work so that we can have fun together seeing it and celebrate our love for cute, little colorful critters!

I want to thank Linda for her willingness to share her work. She really does a lovely job with my patterns.
These are the photos she shared for Show and Tell:
This is Linda with her version of Abby and Liza Beth (combined) now that's creative!

Linda reduced the pattern for a smaller version of the same doll. Isn't she cute? Abby Beth is being held on the bike by Brooke, Linda's daughter.

This is a colorful version of Zipper, the exotic monkey from the Amazon jungle. I think Linda did a very good job on him also. Please, give a hand to Linda for her beautiful work!
